This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join Dr Bowerman’s research group in Keele University’s School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The successful candidate will be involved in an Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity-funded project aimed at better understanding the pathophysiology of Acrodysostosis type 2 (ACRDYS 2) as well as identify treatment strategies for ACRDYS 2, using pre-clinical models. The project is in collaboration with the University of Glasgow and Katalytic Therapeutics.The successful candidate will take a lead role in the project, undertaking experimental work that involves proteomics, bioinformatics, qPCRs, western blotting, immunocytochemistry, use of an Axion BioSystems microelectrode array (MEA) and isolation of primary neurons, osteoblasts and cardiomyocytes.Experience and competences in any of these skills are preferred. The successful candidate will also have experience/qualifications in working in a laboratory environment and preferably in possession of a Home Office Personal Licence (PIL). Competitive applicants without a PIL will also be considered and training and certification provided once in post.The successful candidate will have a PhD (or have obtained a PhD by 1st November 2024) in a field of study related to biomedical sciences, or closely related area.
