Education Welfare Officer Job Type Full Time, Permanent Location Liverpool L22 0PJ Salary Pay Scale: 23:27, A GBP 32,076:A GBP 35,745 per annum Interviews: Friday 14th June 2024 Start Date: September 2024 The Academy Trust aims to provide the very best Catholic education for the young people in their schools. The Role The Academy Trust are looking to appoint an education welfare service for children, their families and 3 secondary academies within the Trust, ensuring children receive education appropriate to their needs, by driving the highest possible attendance regular attendance at school or otherwise. Key Responsibilities * To be responsible for the planning development, design, organisation and monitoring of whole Secondary Schools attendance procedures and policies to ensure a consistent Trust:wide focus on students attendance, using data and benchmarks to measure and monitor progress and set targets which will promote and sustain improvement.* To act as childrens education advocate and to facilitate the educational partnership between home, school, community and Local Authority, by support, liaison and negotiation; and where conflict arises to give paramount consideration to the interests of the child.* To implement a programme of regular monitoring of all school attendance. To consult, advise and support the Headteacher and other school staff on issues of attendance and absence. To consider a range of actions and alternatives and recommend implementation to the Headteacher, in accordance with relevant legislation and DfE guidelines.* To devise in:school programmes to promote the attendance of individual pupils. These may include gradual reintegration into schools through part:time timetables, in:school meetings with Progress Leaders and facilitating support groups of problematic attendees, and other appropriate activities suitable to individual circumstances.* Undertake referrals to external agencies to support students with attendance issues.* To conduct home visits in order to pursue concerns about attendance and other welfare issues. To formulate during such visits strategies as appropriate to the family and to deal with the consequences.* To advise and support schools in the implementation of School Attendance Regulations and in the use of attendance statistics for the monitoring and management of school attendance.* To have a working knowledge of relevant Education and Child Care Legislation that has a significant influence on the functions of each academy. Be able to advise the Headteacher, Academy staff and parents/carers on the implications of such legislation and its practical application.* To mediate between each academy, parents and pupils. This would include initiating and participating in meetings to discuss ways of resolving presenting problems.* Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, PREVENT and their safeguarding and child protection policies.* Work with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary.* Promote the safeguarding of all pupils within the Trust. Skills and Qualifications * Attainment of GCSE grade C or above in English and Math* An understanding of the education system* Multi Agency working* Ability to work effectively within a team environment* Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with pupils, parents/carers* Ability to liaise with Headteachers and senior staff* Ability to hold difficult conversations confidently and effectively* Ability to relate with, and engage hard to reach pupils and their families* Considerable experience of working in one or more of: * Working with Children, Young People and Families* Teacher with pastoral experience or work in a comparable profe
